MUMBAI, Oct 24 (NNN-UNI) – A big fire at a shopping mall in southern Mumbai was brought under control on Friday, almost 14 hours after it broke out, with cooling efforts still going on, according to an official from the city’s disaster management office.
The local official said, no fatalities were reported from the incident, which took place on the second floor of the three-storey shopping mall, and spread to the third floor. However, two firemen sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.
The fire was initially categorised as minor level 1, but was upgraded to level 4 by midnight. As the flames started spreading to other parts of the mall, the level was upgraded to “brigade call” at midnight, with all fire engines from across the city rushing to the spot.
Around 250 fire brigade personnel were deployed, along with 24 fire engines, 16 jumbo tanks, to fight the fire.
Around 3,500 residents of the adjacent building were evacuated as a precautionary measure.– NNN-UNI
