BANGKOK, Oct 24 (NNN-TNA) – Soldiers from the Royal Thai Army set out to Thailand’s three provinces, to tackle serious flooding, triggered by tropical storm Linfa, which made landfall two weeks ago.
Military officers have been dispatched to Thailand’s north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, eastern province of Sa Kaeo and central province of Prachinburi, to help flood victims evacuate to higher grounds, said Gen. Narongphan Jitkaewtae, commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Army.
“We will need to wait for the flood to subside and ensure that people’s safety comes first,” said the army commander.
According to Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM)’s report, the wet season’s heavy rainfall over the past two weeks have killed three people and affected 63,672 homes across Thailand.
Thirty-three provinces have been impacted by floods since Oct 7, the department says.
While conditions have improved in 14 of the provinces, the flood levels in the other 17 provinces are still high, said the DDPM.– NNN-TNA
