RAMALLAH, Oct 22 (NNN-WAFA) – Leaders of rival Palestinian movements, Fatah and Hamas, held talks, to set a date for holding general elections in the Palestinian territories, an official said.
Jibril Rajoub, a member of President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah central committee, said in an online meeting with Palestinian reporters in Gaza that, partnership with Hamas “is an irreversible strategic decision.”
“The regional and international changes wouldn’t affect the current talks on holding the general elections in Palestine, including the pressures of the United States,” Rajoub said.
He noted that Fatah and Hamas leaders, held a dialogue that included ending more than 13 years of internal division and building a real partnership to confront Israel’s plans.
“The internal Palestinian dialogue focuses on several issues, mainly challenges facing the Palestinian cause,” Rajoub said, adding, the challenges also included the Israeli annexation plans and the Arab normalisation deals with Israel.
Hamas and Fatah earlier announced that, they had reached an agreement on a joint vision, as the first step towards holding a comprehensive national dialogue.
They held a dialogue for three days in Istanbul, Turkey, and agreed to end internal division and prepare for holding the general elections.
On Sept 3, Abbas chaired a meeting for 14 Palestinian factions, including Fatah and Hamas.– NNN-WAFA
