KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Gen. Joseph Votel, paid a visit to the Afghan capital, Kabul, and held a meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the Presidential Palace said today (Wednesday).
“Matters pertaining to mutual interests, including the Afghan peace process, the war on terror, and funding and equipping Afghan security and defence forces were discussed at the meeting,” the palace said in a statement.
The outgoing senior U.S. commander, according to the statement, told the president that, his mission has come to an end, but assured, his successor would be someone who would have better knowledge about Afghanistan and would remain a strategic partner of the Afghanistan government and its armed forces and the Afghan people.
President Ghani also stated in the meeting that, the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces have become more capable, as compared to the past, in fighting against militant groups, according to the statement.– NNN-AGENCIES
