DAMASCUS, Oct 17 (NNN-SANA) – Nearly 5,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Syria since Mar, amid preventive measures undertaken by the Syrian health authorities.
The Syrian Health Ministry said, 56 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday, bringing the overall number of infections that have been registered in the country since Mar to 4,987.
The number included 1,456 recoveries and 241 deaths.
That was the number reported in government-controlled areas in the country.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor, said that, 95 cases were recorded on Friday, in rebel-held areas in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.
A total of 2,337 cases have been reported in rebel-held areas in Aleppo and Idlib since July, including 1,140 recoveries and 20 deaths, the UK-based watchdog group added.
In Kurdish-held areas, in northern and north-eastern Syria, a total of 2,739 cases have been reported, including 90 deaths and 620 recoveries, according to the Kurdish authorities.
The Syrian government has taken several measures since the outbreak of the pandemic, including a partial curfew, and shut-off of several businesses.
However, the government has eased the measures, but urged the people to take protective measures, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.– NNN-SANA
