Iran Reports Highest 272 Daily Deaths From COVID-19 As Iraq’s Tally Rises To 405,437

CAIRO, Oct 13 (NNN-XINHUA) – Iran reported 272 deaths, related to COVID-19, the highest daily death toll since the outbreak of the disease in the country, while the Iraqi Health Ministry reported 3,107 new cases, raising the total number to 405,437.

As the hardest hit country in the Middle East, Iran also confirmed 4,206 new cases in the past 24 hours, the highest figure for the day among Middle East states, taking the total tally to 504,281, according to Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian health ministry.

She said, 2,063 patients were hospitalised because of complications from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, while 4,533 remain in critical condition.

So far, the pandemic has claimed the lives of 28,816 Iranians, Lari added.

It is worth noting that 26 out of 31 Iranian provinces are on red alert for a high risk of infection, while four others are on yellow alert.

In Iraq, 60 more fatalities were reported on Monday, raising the death toll from the virus to 9,912 in the country, while 3,893 patients recovered during the day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 340,050.

Turkish Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, reported 1,614 new cases on Monday, raising the total confirmed number in the country to 337,147.

In addition, 58 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,895, while 1,301 more patients recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 295,658, according to the Turkish Health Ministry.

Morocco announced 1,357 new cases and 31 deaths, taking the tally to 153,761 and the death toll to 2,636 in the North African country.

The COVID-19 death rate in Morocco stands at 1.7 percent, while the recovery rate is 84.2 percent, with 464 still in intensive care units.

The Qatari health ministry announced 206 new cases, raising the total number in the Gulf state to 128,191, official Qatar News Agency reported.

Kuwait reported 777 new cases on Monday, raising the total number in the country to 111,893, according to a statement by the health ministry.

On Sept 14, the Kuwaiti government decided to postpone the fifth phase of a plan to return to normal, until further notice. During the fifth phase, theatres and cinemas will be allowed to reopen and all social events permitted to be held.

Palestine reported 395 new cases and 10 fatalities, raising the total number of infections in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem to 55,951 and the death toll to 455.

In Oman, 685 new cases and eight more deaths were reported, raising the tally of infections to 106,575 and the death toll to 1,046.

Oman re-imposed a curfew from 8.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m., and the closure of shops and public places from Oct 11 to 24, to help contain the virus.

As the first among the Gulf countries to report COVID-19 cases, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday announced 1,064 new cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 107,293.

The UAE health ministry also reported 1,271 more recoveries from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries in the UAE to 98,555.

Algeria on Monday reported 153 new cases, bringing the total infections to 53,225, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.

In Lebanon and Libya, the number of cases on Monday rose by 1,056 and 1,109 respectively to 54,624 and 43,821.

Egypt confirmed late on Sunday, 129 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total cases registered in the North African country, since the outbreak of the pandemic to 104,516, said the Egyptian Health Ministry.– NNN-XINHUA
