KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Istana Negara (palace) became the point of focus for local and foreign journalists this morning as they turned up to cover Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s royal audience with Malaysia’s King, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
A vehicle carrying Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim was seen arriving at Istana Negara at 10.25 am.
The press was prevented from approaching the car. They were also advised by the police to observe the prescribed standing operating procedures (SOP), and to keep their social distancing.
Nonetheless, their presence caught the attention of the King’s senior private secretary Colonel (Rtd) Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim, who brought them some food for breakfast.
Last Thursday, Anwar, in a statement, said the King had consented to grant him an audience on Tuesday (today) during which he would present to His Majesty a complete statement on the majority parliamentary support which he claimed to have secured.
In a media conference on Sept 23, Anwar claimed he had secured “strong and convincing” support from the majority of the Members of Parliament to form a new government.
