ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, on Monday had a telephone conversation with his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison, and discussed the global health and economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan said.
A statement from the Prime Minister Office said, both leaders discussed bilateral matters and international issues of mutual interest, and Khan highlighted the adverse economic impact of COVID-19 on developing countries.
In a reference to the COVID-19 peak time in Pakistan, the Pakistani prime minister said that his government’s emphasis had been on saving lives, securing livelihoods, and stimulating the economy.
“The ‘smart lockdown’ strategy and other measures taken by the government had led to significant containment of the pandemic in Pakistan,” he said.
Expressing satisfaction at the level of bilateral relations between the two countries, Khan said, there is huge potential for further enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse fields.
In the regional context, he highlighted Pakistan’s positive contribution to the Afghan peace process and stressed that peace in Afghanistan was of paramount importance for the region and Pakistan.
During the conversation, Morrison shared his country’s efforts to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and noted Pakistan’s positive role in the Afghan peace process, according to the statement.– NNN-APP
