KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) — A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, struck the Myanmar-India border region at 1.38 am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement today said the epicentre of the 53km-deep quake was 307km east of Narsingdi, Bangladesh.
There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement added.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, MetMalaysia has issued an advisory on a Tropical Depression (cyclone) which is expected to hit Sabah.
It said that as of 8 pm yesterday, the Tropical Depression was detected approximately 755km northeast of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
“This condition may cause strong winds and rough seas over the waters of the South China Sea,” it added.
