PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia has presented the progress and development of the draft ASEAN Plan of Action on the Implementation Norms of Responsible States Behaviour in Cyberspace at the fifth ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC) main session, which was held virtually Wednesday.
The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM), in a statement Thursday, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah and National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) chief executive Md Shah Nuri Md Zain participated in the AMCC main and special sessions.
“Malaysia, through NACSA, is working closely together with Singapore, through Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), in leading the initiative to develop the regional action plan to ensure effective and practical implementation of these norms,” KKMM said.
It said ASEAN member states had expressed their support to the existing set of international rules, norms and principles of responsible behaviour of states addressed in the consensus reports of the 2015 Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security (UNGGE).
“There were 11 norms that have been agreed and recommended in the 2015 UNGGE Final Report,” it said.
AMCC is an annual meeting, co-organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information of Singapore (MCI) and CSA in conjunction with the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW).
The AMCC main session, held in a closed session, involved the participation of the ASEAN ICT and cybersecurity ministers.
The main session is a ministerial-level dialogue that provides a platform to discuss key cybersecurity issues and complement existing ASEAN efforts in fostering cybersecurity cooperation among member states.
The AMCC special session, on the other hand, includes the participation of ASEAN Dialogue Partners, apart from ASEAN member states to discuss cybersecurity issues related to COVID-19.
Themed “Cooperation in a Post-COVID Future”, SICW 2020 was organised by Singapore as a combination of interlinked physical and virtual meetings that will allow key leaders from governments, industry, academia and non-government organisations to explore the future of cyberspace cooperation from a broader range of perspectives.
