JAKARTA, Oct 3 (NNN-ANTARA) – The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Southeast Asian countries reached over 700,000 on Friday.
The Philippines has the highest number of cases among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members, with a total of 316,678.
According to the Philippine Department of Health (DOH), as of Friday, more than 254,617 people in the country have recovered from the disease, while 5,616 others have died.
The latest figures brought the number of active cases to 56,445 or nearly 18 percent of the country’s caseload.
Indonesia has the second highest record with a total of 295,499 cases, after the country reported 4,317 new infections over the past 24 hours.
According to the Indonesian Health Ministry, a total of 221,340 people have recovered, and 10,972 have died from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 10 new infections, including one in the community and five imported cases.
“There are five imported cases, that had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice, upon arrival in Singapore,” said MOH, in a press statement. Singapore’s COVID-19 tally now stands at 57,794.
Thailand reported six new cases, bringing the total infections to 3,575, according to the Bangkok Post.
Thailand also recorded that, 3,384 had recovered, including five discharges over the past 24 hours, and 59 had died.
Malaysia confirmed another surge in new infections for the second day straight, with 287 cases on Friday, and all are local transmissions.
On a virtual press conference, Health Director-General, Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the total cases in Malaysia now is 11,771, while 10,095 people recovered, and 136 died.
Myanmar recorded the number of cases now at 14,383, with 4,156 recovered and 321 dead, the Myanmar Ministry of Health said.
Meanwhile, the Cambodia Ministry of Health recorded 278 cases, 275 people recovered, and no death.
Vietnam confirmed a total of 1,096 cases, Laos recorded 23 cases, and Brunei had a total of 146 cases, according to data compiled by the Worldometer.– NNN-ANTARA
