PRD Candidate Leads Vote Intentions in Panama

PANAMA CITY, Feb 19 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) candidate, Laurentino Cortizo, leads vote intention to occupy the presidency of Panama, a survey revealed on Monday.

According to a survey carried out by StratMark Consultores, S.A for the May 5 general elections, Romulo Roux, of the Democratic Change party; and Jose Blandon, of the Panameñista Party follow Cortizo.

The survey states that Cortizo totals about 48.7 percent of vote intention, Rou 23.9 percent and Blandon 10.8 percent.

The company did this study on Feb 9-11, and has a margin of error that goes from zero to more than 3.1 percent. This survey was carried out in all provinces except Darien and the NgÃñbe Bugle, Guna Yala and Embera districts.

About 2.7 million voters will vote on May 5 to elect the president and vice president of the country, legislators to the Central American Parliament and the National Assembly, mayors, and other local authorities, all with their respective substitutes.

According to the Electoral Tribunal of Panama, seven legally constituted political parties will participate in the elections: in addition to the three mentioned parties, the People’s Party, Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement, Broad Front for Democracy and the Alliance for Change Party will also compete. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
