Fire-Fighters Battle Forest Fires In Central Argentina For Second Day

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 24 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The battle of more than 400 fire-fighters, against forest fires raging in the central Argentine province of Cordoba on Wednesday, entered into its second day today.

Nine aircraft, including planes and helicopters, were helping to douse the flames from above, in Las Jarillas, Bosque Alegre and Villa Giardino, in the Punilla Valley, official sources said.

“The danger index for the forest fires to develop is extreme,” the province’s Ministry of Security warned, calling on “the population to take pertinent precautions and respect instructions of the authorities.”

Due to low visibility caused by the smoke, part of a provincial roadway was closed to traffic.

For the moment, fire-fighters managed to save residences near the fires from the flames.

The National Meteorological Service, forecast probable rain in the affected area, but not until Friday (tomorrow) or Saturday.– NNN-PRENSA LATINA
