Driver Dies, 40 Injured After Train, School Bus Collide In North New Zealand

WELLINGTON, Sept 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) – A driver of a school bus was killed and 40 people, including six children, were injured, after the bus collided with the back of a passing train, at about 8.00 a.m. this morning, near Palmerston North, in New Zealand’s North Island.

The female bus driver, who died in the crash, heading to the Feilding High School, was trying to cross the train tracks, when her bus hit the back of the train, at a railway-road intersection.

Police are still investigating the case.

The six injured children were taken to the Palmerston North Hospital immediately. Their injuries were not serious, according to the police.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, soon after, and many parents had also picked up their children from the scene.– NNN-AGENCIES
