BANGKOK, Sept 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Thailand is considering allocating 1.9 billion baht (RM 252.39 million) to install a security system to prevent ransomware attack at state-run hospitals.
Deputy Public Health Minister, Sathit Pitutecha, said it is a long-term move to protect data and prevent ransomware attacks at all hospitals run by the Public Health Ministry.
“The installation process is expected to take one to two years,” he said as quoted by Bangkok Post.
On 5 Sept, Saraburi Hospital, a state-run hospital, was hit by a ransomware attack and hackers demanded a ransom of 63 billion baht in Bitcoin to be paid to unlock the system.
However, inspector-general of Public Health, Sura Wisetsak, said no ransom was paid.
Experts believed the virus originated in Europe.
