MEXICO CITY, Sept 7 (NNN-Xinhua) – Tropical Storm Julio formed in the Pacific off Mexico’s southwestern coast near the state of Guerrero, the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported.
The agency said in a release that, as of Saturday afternoon, the center of Julio was about 215 km south of the coastal resort of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, an area that is still reeling from the damage caused by Tropical Storm Hernan, which swept through the region last week.
The latest reports showed that Julio is displaying winds of up to 65 kph and gusts of up to 85 kph.
The agency said that though the storm is unlikely to make landfall, it will generate heavy rains in the area.
The Mexican Army said in a statement that soldiers would continue to dispense aid to various towns in Guerrero, as many residents need to be evacuated.
According to Conagua, Julio could show an increase in wind strength on Sunday as it moves in a west-northwest direction off the Mexican coast. — NNN-AGENCIES
