HONG KONG, Aug 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – Asia-Pacific countries kept on high alert, as India recorded the biggest daily jump of 77,266 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 3,387,500.
India’s COVID-19 deaths reached 61,529, with 1,057 new deaths reported.
Still there are 742,023 active cases in the country, while 2,583,948 have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals the ministry data showed.
Till Thursday, a total of 39,477,848 samples had been tested, with 901,338 samples tested on Thursday alone. Over the past several weeks the country’s federal government has focused on ramping up samples testing.
The number of confirmed cases in the Philippines surged to 209,544 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,999 new daily cases.
The DOH said that the number of recoveries surged to 134,474, after it reported 510 more patients who survived the disease.
The death toll also climbed to 3,325, after 91 more patients succumbed to the disease, the DOH added.
In Indonesia, positive cases rose by 3,003 within one day, to 165,887, with the death toll adding by 105 to 7,169, the Health Ministry said yesterday. According to the ministry, 2,325 more people have been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 120,900.
Bangladesh reported over 2,200 new cases and 47 new deaths on Friday, bringing the total tally to over 306,000, and total deaths to 4,174 respectively, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said.
According to the figures reported by the DGHS, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 306,794 including 2,211 new cases. The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 196,836, including 3,378 new recoveries yesterday, said the DGHS.
South Korea reported 371 more cases as of 0:00 a.m. Friday local time, compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 19,077.
The number of confirmed cases for the past 15 days reached 4,307, owing to infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province. The infections were traceable to church services of Sarang Jeil Church in Seoul, and the massive rally held in central Seoul on Aug 15, by conservative politicians, civic groups and church members.
Of the new cases, 145 were Seoul residents and 112 were people residing in Gyeonggi province. Twelve were imported, lifting the figure to 2,782. Three more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 316. The total fatality rate stood at 1.66 percent.
Myanmar reported 26 more locally transmitted cases yesterday morning, bringing the number of total infections to 628, said a release from the Health and Sports Ministry. The newly confirmed cases are people from Rakhine state and those with recent travelling history to Rakhine state.
Myanmar detected new local transmission again on Aug 16, since its local case was last reported on July 16.– NNN-XINHUA
