MUMBAI, Aug 25 (NNN-PTI) – One person was killed and 17 injured, while 43 others were feared trapped, after a five-storey building collapsed in Mahad, 170 km from Mumbai, last night.
One person died and seven are currently undergoing treatment in hospital, and the search for the remaining 43 is underway, deputy district collector, Padmashri Bainade, told a local TV news channel.
Ten people who were in the vicinity of the collapsed building have been discharged, after primary first-aid for bruises, the official said.
Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are at the site for search and rescue operations, conducted jointly with the local administration.
Terming the accident as tragic, India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah, said, he has spoken to the director general of the disaster response force, to provide all possible assistance.
Earlier estimates by the local administration indicated that around 70 people were trapped.– NNN-PTI
