YANGON, Aug 25 (NNN-MNA) – Over 87,000 residents were affected by monsoon flooding in Myanmar’s regions and states, since July 11, an official from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement said.
“At present, there are some 19,000 flood-hit victims left at the shelters in Sagaing, Magway, Mandalay and Bago regions, as well as, Kachin, Kayin, Shan, Kayah and Mon states,” said Daw Phyu Lei Lei Tun, director of disaster management department under the ministry.
From July 11 to yesterday, four deaths were reported in Magway region, she added.
So far, the ministry provided humanitarian assistance and protective essentials to be used in COVID-19 fights, to flood victims, as well as, building materials for the victims whose houses were destroyed by the floods.
During the rainy season months, people are urged to take precautionary measures, and follow guidelines issued by the Meteorology and Hydrology Department, said the official.– NNN-MNA
