Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Reached 419 In Myanmar With Increasing Local Transmissions

YANGON, Aug 22 (NNN-MNA) – The number of COVID-19 cases reached 419 in Myanmar yesterday, with increasing number of local transmissions, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

Ten more people, including a 10-year-old child, in Sittwe township of Rakhine state, tested positive on Friday night.

On Friday alone, a total of 20 local transmissions were reported in Rakhine state.

Myanmar detected locally transmitted cases again, since the last local case was confirmed on July 16. 28 local cases were reported in Sittwe township and one in Mrauk-U township in a week, since Aug 16.

Due to the recent increasing number of locally transmitted cases, the government issued a two-month curfew order, which will be effective from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. local time, in Sittwe township, starting Friday.

COVID-19 was first detected in Myanmar on Mar 23, and the death toll stands at six.

Union Minister, Dr. Myint Htwe of Health and Sports, in his recent message to the public, urged people not to let their guard down in the fight against COVID-19, and to stay alert to its second wave.– NNN-MNA
