NEW DELHI, Aug 18 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Famous Indian playback singer and music composer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, under treatment for COVID-19, was taken off the ventilator after his condition improved.

The 74-year-old popular singer was moved to the intensive care unit last week at a Chennai hospital but is now better, Indian media reported on Tuesday.

“He’s getting better with each passing day and the progress is evident. Doctors are very happy. He has been taken off the ventilator but he’s still being closely monitored,” the singer’s sister S.P. Sailaja was quoted as saying in a report.

Balasubrahmanyam, a well-known figure in the entertainment industry in India, having sung songs mostly in the Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and Malayalam languages covering both North and South India, was admitted to hospital two weeks ago after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Tamil movie superstar Rajinikanth and music composer Ilaiyaraja are among the celebrities who have wished Balasubrahmanyam speedy recovery.

“I’m glad to know he is on the road to recovery after being hospitalised and becoming critical. I pray for his speedy recovery,” Rajinikanth said in a message.
