YANGON, Aug 15 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities seized a large haul of narcotic drugs in southern Mon state, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, the police force made a seizure in Thaton township, on Thursday.
Some 565,500 stimulants worth over 2.8 billion kyats (over 2 million U.S. dollars) and 22 kg of methamphetamine (ICE) worth 1.1 billion kyats (785,714 U.S. dollars) were confiscated from a car, along with one suspect.
The township police filed a case against the suspect in connection with the case and further investigation was underway, the CCDAC said.
According to the President’s Office, a total of 1,279 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar, while 1,968 people were charged in connection with the cases, as of Aug 8 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018.– NNN-MNA
