LONDON, Aug 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) – “That’ll do icely!” Western Lowland gorillas might have said, as they were enjoying the hottest day of the year at London Zoo.
The gorillas were feeling cool after keepers offered them the biggest “ice lollies” they’d ever seen.
Zookeepers gave Mjukuu, Effie, Gernot and Alika the giant cooling treats, as temperatures skyrocketed to 34 degrees in the British capital.
Ice blocks, containing a whopping 280 kg of frozen fruit tea, and sugar-free apple squash, were almost as big as youngsters Alika and Gernot. The pair enjoyed playing with the huge cubes and foraging for encased frozen nuts in the sunshine.
According to the Zoological Society of London, the supersized lollies were made by dedicated keepers, in a walk-in freezer on site at London Zoo and took two days to freeze.
