KATHMANDU, July 29 (NNN-NEPALNEWS) – Over 30 Nepali police personnel have been infected with the COVID-19, in the last three days, as the Himalayan country saw sudden spike in cases on Tuesday, in nearly one month, the Nepal police said.
“In the last three days, 31 police personnel, employed at the police headquarters in Kathmandu, have been identified to be infected with the virus,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Kuber Kadayat, said, on Tuesday.
Kadayat said, after four police personnel were found infected with the virus on Sunday, additional police personnel were also found to be infected on Tuesday, during the tracing of those who had come into contact with the infected police personnel.
According to Nepal Police, as many as 185 police personnel have so far been infected with the virus and 99 of them have already recovered.
Along with them, personnel from other security agencies, such as Nepal Army and the Armed Police Force Personnel, have also been infected with the virus, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population.
The large number of infections at the police headquarter come into light, as the government reported 311 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.
“With the new cases, total COVID-19 cases in Nepal reached 19,063,” Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, told a press briefing yesterday.
After reporting record high daily infection of 740 on July 3, Nepal had been witnessing sharp drop in new cases. In the last week, daily cases ranged from 100 to 147, according to the health ministry.– NNN-NEPALNEWS
