JAKARTA, July 28 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia will allow several schools located outside COVID-19 low risk areas or green zones, to conduct face-to-face learning, along with tight health protocols, an official said.
Chief of the Coronavirus Task Force, Doni Monardo, said, many students faced difficulties during online learning, due to poor internet signals.
Monardo said that several areas, situated outside the green zones, would be selected for having the permission.
“It is likely in the near future that schools outside the green zones will be authorised to conduct face-to-face learning practices,” Monardo told a press conference, after a meeting led by President Joko Widodo.
Still, schools have to apply tight health protocols, including limitations on the number of students in one class and the learning duration, he said.
Monardo did not give further details, on whether or not the areas to be selected are classified as yellow zones or red zones.
Indonesia resumed economic activities, including those in the sectors of business, tourism, aviation and education, along with the imposition of tight health protocols, although the transmission of the virus remains afloat as of late.
Some schools in the green zones started reopening since the beginning of this month, and some are expected do so in coming months.
The transmission of COVID-19 remains high in Indonesia, but the upbeat over the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in the months ahead has pared down the concern on the fast transmission.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry reported 1,525 additional cases, bringing the total to 100,303 with 4,838 fatalities.– NNN-ANTARA
