Libya Rescues 132 Illegal Immigrants

TRIPOLI, Libya, Feb 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Libyan Coast Guards rescued 132 illegal immigrants, a day earlier, including 100 men, 22 women, and 10 children, off the coast of the city of Khoms, some 120 km east of the capital, Tripoli.

The immigrants, who are of different African nationalities, have been taken to a reception centre near Tripoli and provided with medical assistance, the statement said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the anti-illegal immigration department announced rescuing 35 illegal immigrants of different African and Asian nationalities off the country’s western coast.

Due to the state of insecurity and chaos, following the 2011 uprising that toppled the late leader Gaddafi’s regime, Libya became a preferred point of departure, for thousands of illegal immigrants wanting to cross the Mediterranean towards European shores.– NNN-AGENCIES
