COVID-19 Cases In Philippines Reach 56,259 With 2,124 Newly-Reported Cases

MANILA, July 13 (NNN-PNA) – The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 56,259, after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,124 more infections.

The DOH said today that, the number of recoveries further rose to 16,046, after 2,009 more patients survived the disease.

The death toll also increased to 1,534 after 162 more patients have succumbed to the viral disease, the DOH added.

The DOH failed to report the number of COVID-19 cases for the first time on Sunday, citing “significant volume of data being validated.”

The DOH releases case updates around 4:00 p.m. (local time) daily. In previous instances where reporting was delayed, a record-high number of new infections was recorded.

To lessen the risk of community transmission, the government on Sunday said that it is now discouraging patients from home quarantine.

Cabinet Secretary, Karlo Nograles, co-chair of the government’s coronavirus task force, said, from now on, confirmed patients are required to stay in quarantine facilities.

Moreover, Nograles said, it is compulsory for all patients to be isolated for 14 days in the quarantine facilities.

The DOH attributed the spike of cases in the last few days to clusters in specific areas, the increase in the verification process of case data, the community transmission, and the increased testing capacity.– NNN-PNA
