Lebanon Mulls New Anti-COVID-19 Measures Amid Continuous Rise In Cases: Minister

BEIRUT, July 11 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese Health Minister, Hamad Hassan, said that, the national committee for the fight against COVID-19 will take strict measures to prevent the continuous rise in cases in the country.

The measures include the isolation of buildings and houses, while authorities will monitor people who were in contact with COVID-19 infected patients, according to Hassan.

He noted that his ministry will also re-emphasise the commitment by people to wear masks, and apply proper safety laws.

Lebanon recorded, on Friday, the highest daily number of infections since the outbreak of the virus in the country, as the number of COVID-19 infections rose by 71 to 2,082.

“We are currently registering 200 cases per week, while it may reach 300 infections within the coming two days this week,” he said in an interview.

He attributed the increase in cases to the lack of proper measures by returnees from foreign countries, who did not adhere to the 48-hour quarantine to make sure that their PCR test results are normal before interacting with others.

He also affirmed that 40 percent of infections are local and that 30 percent are expatriates, who returned to Lebanon and have caused the remaining 30 percent of the infections.

He also noted that medical staff in some hospitals have also been infected with the virus, which is considered a big challenge that must be dealt with responsibly.– NNN-NNA
