BANGKOK, July 4 (NNN-TNA) – Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the Ministry of Public Health, launched a lab at the airport that is equipped to conduct polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which provides up to 95 percent accurate result within 90 minutes, according to Suthirawat Suwanawat, general manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Suvarnabhumi is ready to receive foreign travellers and put in place facilities under the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand’s guidelines and the government’s regulations, to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The PCR test however, will be paid by the inbound traveller, at 3,000 baht (96 U.S. dollars) per person and won’t need to go through the 14 day mandatory quarantine.
“However, these travellers, despite passing the PCR test, will be banned from entering public transport and places,” said Suthirawat.
The airport general manager said that Suvarnabhumi recorded about 4,000 domestic passengers and 58 flights per day in June.
Also, the number of domestic passengers increased to 8,045 and the total number of flights has risen to 177 as the government eased lock-down restrictions.
More international flights will bring Thai returnees home, hence the establishment of the PCR test should be useful, said Suthirawat.
The Thai government has given the greenlight from July 1 onwards, to allow business travellers and foreigners with spouses, work permits or residency into the country.– NNN-TNA
