Uzbekistan’s President To Take Part In Victory Day Parade In Russia

TASHKENT, June 23 (NNN-TASS) – Uzbekistan’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will pay a working visit to Russia, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, on June 23 and 24 (today and tomorrow), Uzbek president’s press service said Monday.

Mirziyoyev will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, and will also take part in the ceremonies to commemorate the 75th anniversary of victory in World War II, it said.

During World War II, Uzbekistan fought alongside other former republics of the Soviet Union.

More than 538,000 Uzbeks died in the battles, and over 158,000 others were missing, according to official figures.

Uzbekistan became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991.– NNN-TASS
