COVID-19 Cases Cross 300,000 In India, Deaths Reach 8,884

NEW DELHI, June 13 (NNN-UNI) – COVID-19 cases crossed the 300,000-mark in India today, reaching 308,993, as the death toll stood at 8,884, said the latest data issued by the federal health ministry.

The ministry said, 386 new deaths, besides fresh 11,458 positive cases were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 8,884 and total cases to 308,993.

This is the largest single day spike in the country in terms of new COVID-19 cases.

“As of 8:00 a.m. (local time) today, 8,884 deaths have been recorded in the country,” reads information released by the ministry.

On Friday morning the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 297,535, and the death toll 8,498.

According to ministry officials, so far 154,330 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

“The number of active cases in the country right now is 145,779,” reads the information.

The 5th phase of nationwide lock-down came into force from June 1. This phase marks several relaxations and reopening in a phased manner.

On Mar 25, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced a nationwide lock-down to contain the spread of COVID-19 and break the chain of infection.– NNN-UNI
