Five Billion Dollars to Support Pensioners in Mexico – Pres Obrador

MEXICO CITY, Feb 8 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — With 100 billion pesos (5 billion dollars), the support plan for the elderly that benefits more than eight million Mexicans begins, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced.

The President, in his customary morning press conference at the National Palace, offered details of what he called a report of the Welfare State he intends to apply in Mexico, as it is done in several countries in Europe.

He pointed out that the new system guarantees that the totality of the aid reaches the beneficiary because the intermediation is eliminated, the money received goes directly from the Federal Treasury to the pensioners pocket.

Therefore, all social, peasant and aid organizations are eliminated, including the Adult Institute and the so-called non-profit NGOs that supposedly reduced aid.

He reiterated that the elderly pension is increased almost double because of 550 thousand bimonthly pesos (77.5 dollars) it now goes up to 2,550 (125 dollars) also bimonthly.

He also explained that the benefit is universal and all older adults are entitled to it because it is not measured whether they have resources or not, but a reward, their contribution to society for life is rewarded, although he clarified that there are many people who give it back to benefit others. It is voluntary, he stressed.

The beneficiary will not depend on anything or anyone; he/she will press a button and receive what it his/hers entirely, without cuts, obstacles, bureaucracy, and waste. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
