PUTRAJAYA, May 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continue to yield encouraging results when 15 new positive cases reported today, the lowest ever recorded since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of COVID-19 positive cases currently stood at 7,619 with the total number of active cases was at 1,421.
“Please note that out of the 15 new cases reported today, six are imported cases. Of the nine cases of local transmission, four involve foreign nationals.
“Five other cases are local infection among Malaysians,” he told a daily press conference on the COVID-19 here today.
No deaths were reported today and the number of fatalities remained at 115, he said.
The lowest number of COVID-19 positive cases was previously recorded on May 12 at 16.
Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia contributed 0.14 per cent of the total number of COVID-19 positive cases worldwide.
“The increase in COVID-19 positive cases reported over the past few days is due to the detection of COVID-19 positive cases at Immigration detention centres and other active clusters involving foreign nationals.
“This is following the action of the government’s targeted approach to curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection,” he said.
He said the decline in local transmission cases was in line with Ministry of Health’s projections and the results of public health action implemented a month ago during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and followed by the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
