PHNOM PENH, May 9 (NNN-AKP) – Three young children were drowned, in a sand-dredging pit, on the southern outskirts of Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, according to a national police’s report.
The accident occurred in the late afternoon of Friday, in Meanchey district, when they got into the water to take a bath without an adult’s presence.
The victims were identified as a 5-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother, as well as, a 3-year-old girl, the police said.
According to the police, the victims’ parents are construction workers.
“After examining their bodies, the police concluded that they died of drowning,” the police reported on its website.
Drownings happen often in Cambodia, especially in rural areas. On Feb 4, three children, aged six, eight and 10 years, also drowned in a pond, in northwest Preah Vihear province’s Choam Ksan district.– NNN-AKP
