KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Venezuela will present to the United Nations Security Council the case of the attempt by certain groups to carry out a plot against the South American country, and will also present the evidence before the International Criminal Court (ICC), said President Nicolás Maduro.
At an international press conference in Caracas on Wednesday, May 6, Maduro said that Venezuela will also work for a forceful condemnation by all members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) of the failed terrorist attempt aimed at overthrowing him.
Maduro emphasised that Venezuela wants peace, that the problems of Venezuelans are internal affairs of the country, and “only we, with our own capacities, our own methods and models, must solve them.”
“We are going to the ICC, we are going to the UN Security Council, I have given direct instructions to Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and the ambassador, Samuel Moncada (Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the UN) so that we can prepare a forceful complaint before the Council of the United Nations Security, a strong condemnation by all NAM members and before all UN members and embassies in New York for this to add legal force of international protection for Venezuela,” he said in Spanish.

The Venezuelan government, in a statement on Monday, said that at dawn on May 3, the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) foiled an attempt by certain groups to board the coast of the State of La Guaira, with the intention of carrying out terrorist actions against authorities of the Venezuelan State.
In addition, the statement said that several terrorists were killed in the failed operation while others were detained, and a large shipment of weapons, vehicles and war material was also seized.
The incident has also further fueled tensions between the United States and Venezuela, as Caracas has accused the United States of being involved in the raid. Maduro says that two US citizens were arrested while eight others were killed during the attempt.
On Tuesday, United States President Donald Trump said that his government had nothing to do with the latest situation in Venezuela.
The United States, which recognises Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela, has also imposed crippling unilateral economic and diplomatic coercive measures on Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government also accused the participation of the Colombian government, but Bogotá has rejected any link to the incident.
