Some Israeli Cities Refuse To Reopen Schools Despite Gov’t Decision

JERUSALEM, May 2 (NNN-MA’AN) – Several Israeli cities have announced that they would not reopen schools on Sunday (tomorrow), despite the government’s decision on Friday, to resume first to third grade classes, as well as, 11th and 12th grade classes.

The municipalities of these cities said, they are not ready to reopen schools, in light of the restrictions imposed by the government, that include keeping distance between pupils, studying in small groups and implementing hygiene measures.

Thus, Ron Huldai, mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, the second largest city in Israel, said, “Classes cannot be opened on Sunday.”

He added that, “due to responsibility for the children and educational staff’s health, we will not be able to open schools until we have learned, understood and followed the guidelines.”

A similar statement was issued by Ruvik Danilovich, mayor of Beer Sheva, the largest city in southern Israel.

“We will not be able to open schools without clear guidelines on safety and health rules,” the mayor said in his statement.– NNN-MA’AN
