CAIRO, Apr 29 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt witnessed a record of daily fatalities of COVID-19 with 22 new deaths on Tuesday, bringing the death toll in the country to 359.
The Egyptian Health Ministry also confirmed 260 new infections, raising the total COVID-19 cases registered in Egypt to 5,042.
Khaled Megahed, the health ministry’s spokesman, said, 68 patients were completely cured and discharged from hospitals, increasing total recoveries to 1,304.
Earlier on Tuesday, an Egyptian exceptional flight repatriated 148 citizens who were stranded in Indonesia and Oman, as part of the country’s efforts to protect expats.
“The 148 citizens arrived in the Red Sea resort city of Marsa Alam. They underwent medical check and are currently in a 14-day quarantine at a hotel in Marsa Alam,” Tamer Marei, Egyptian Health Ministry’s undersecretary in the Red Sea province, said.
Over the past six weeks, Egypt has been implementing temporary closure of schools and universities, entertainment places, restaurants, malls, museums and archaeological sites, besides suspending flights and halting sports activities, to curb the outbreak of the virus.
Egypt is currently implementing a nine-hour nighttime curfew that will continue until the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, that started on Apr 24.– NNN-MENA
