KABUL, Apr 23 (NNN-XINHUA) – Seven fighters, including five militants and two security personnel, have been confirmed dead, as clash erupted in Darqad district of the northern Takhar province today, a spokesman for the army in the northern region, Abdul Hadi Jamal, said.
The clash erupted after a group of Taliban militants stormed a checkpoint of national army early morning, triggering a gun battle, which lasted for two hours and the attacking insurgents fled after leaving five bodies behind, the official asserted.
Two soldiers were also killed in the firefight, the official admitted.
Taliban militants, who have intensified activities over the past couple of weeks, have yet to make comment.– NNN-XINHUA
