TIRANA, Albania, Feb 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Albania invested over 10 million euros (around 11.4 million U.S. dollars) in the past five years, in diagnostic equipment and tumour treatment, Albanian Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, reported to the Parliamentary Commission of Health on World Day against Cancer on Monday.
According to Manastirliu, the government has increased public funding by 43.3 percent compared to five years ago.
Manastirliu underlined that, in 2018 about 16,000 women across the country had free mammograms, twice as many as in 2017.
Meanwhile, in regard to the basic medical examinations, over 1.3 million tests have been performed to detect colorectal cancer.
“With the installation of the new linear accelerator in Tirana University Hospital Centre today (yesterday), we also provide radiotherapy for tumour-affected children and have reduced the waiting time thrice for radiotherapy patients,” added Manastirliu.– NNN-AGENCIES
