Covid-19: Around 1,200 Cuban doctors fight pandemic worldwide

HAVANA, April 18 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — About 1,200 Cuban health professionals have joined the battle against Covid-19 around the globe, Bruno Rodriguez, minister of Foreign Affairs, said.

On his Twitter account, Bruno Rodriguez posted that 21 medical brigades have taken Cuban solidarity to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America and the Caribbean, in times of pandemic.

On Thursday, Cuba´s Foreign Ministry stated that this country has responded to medical assistance requests without evaluating political differences or economic advantages.

Cuban medical workers join the domestic and local efforts of 20 countries, which add to or reinforce the health brigades present in 60 nations, the text added.

Separately, the Vietnamese Party, State and people had on Friday a new gesture of solidarity towards Cuba by donating 5,000 tons of rice to help them solve the food difficulties amid the fight against the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The support was also spiritual, because during the ceremony, a letter from Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong was addressed to his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro, and President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

As co-chair of the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Commission, Construction Minister Pham Hong Ha said that his country is also ready to support Cuba with medical equipment that can be used to prevent and fight the pandemic.

After expressing gratitude for the material and moral support from Vietnam, Cuban Ambassador Lianys Torres pointed out that this is one more among the countless gestures of friendship by the Vietnamese Party, State and people in almost 60 years of the diplomatic relations between both countries.

On April 17, 1961, Cuba faced the invasion on Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), in central Cuba, and defeated it in less than 72 hours. In the same spirit, our people are currently facing the coronavirus pandemic and we will also defeat it, she said. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
