GAZA, Palestine, Feb 4 (NNN-WAFA) – Islamic Hamas movement’s politburo chief, Ismail Haniyeh, who led a senior Hamas delegation, headed to Cairo on Sunday afternoon, to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials, Hamas sources in Gaza said.
Haniyeh and the Hamas delegation left the Gaza Strip to Egypt through the Rafah border crossing point between Egypt and southern Gaza Strip, that has been kept open in both directions for the past four days.
Hamas sources in Gaza said, Haniyeh and his delegation will resume their talks with senior Egyptian security intelligence officials, on a calm understanding that Egypt brokered between Hamas and Israel in Nov.
The sources added that talks between the two sides will also focus on pushing forward the stalled internal reconciliation, and carry on talking on ending internal division between Hamas and Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement.
The Hamas source declined to say if Haniyeh and the Hamas delegation would leave Cairo and go for a foreign tour that might include Russia.
Earlier last week, Bassem Na’eem, deputy chief of foreign relations’ department of the Hamas movement, said that, his movement received an official invitation from Russia to visit Moscow in early Feb.
On Jan 6, the Palestinian Authority decided to withdraw all its employees and police, who work at the Rafah crossing point, in protest against Hamas security forces’ crackdown on Fatah movement’s supporters and members.– NNN-WAFA
