BAGHDAD, Apr 15 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi security forces, killed eight Daesh militants, in clashes in the northern province of Kirkuk, the paramilitary Hashd Shaabi forces said.
A joint force from the Iraqi army and Hashd Shaabi, backed by Iraqi helicopter gunships, carried out an operation to hunt down the militants in Daquq area, in the south of the provincial capital city of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the Hashd Shaabi said, in a statement.
During the operation, the troops clashed with the militants and killed eight of them, the statement said.
The statement did not give details about the casualties among the Iraqi forces.
The latest killing of Daesh militants came, one day after another operation in Daquq, when the Iraqi troops found a cave in the rugged area, used as a hideout for the militants. The fighting resulted in the killing of 23 Daesh militants.
The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the militants late in 2017.
However, their remnants have since melted in urban areas or hidden in the deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerrilla attacks against security forces and civilians.– NNN-NINA
