GITEGA, April 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Burundi Football Federation has suspended local matches, two weeks after the country confirmed its first case of coronavirus.
The federation had earlier refused to suspend matches saying it had introduced measures to protect players against the virus.
The country currently has five confirmed cases of the virus.
The federation said after analysing the competition it had seen that it was still possible to achieve the May 30 deadline to submit finalists for international competitions.
It said it was re-arranging the calendar and would resume local competition before the deadline.
Burundi was the only African country that was still having football matches despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
It was among the last African countries to record cases of the virus. — NNN-AGENCIES
