ACCRA, April 10 (NNN-GNA) — The Ghana government has extended the lockdown imposed on Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi by one more week from Monday, April 13.

In his sixth televised address to the nation, the President said, although the efforts have been successful, the country was not yet out of the woods.

A 14-day restriction was imposed two weeks ago on movements in parts of the country with the aim of controlling the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The lockdown has been implemented in parts of the country where significant numbers of virus infections have been recorded.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo added that although the lockdown is harsh, it has been critical in beating down Ghana’s Coronavirus case count.

Ghana’s current Coronavirus case stands at 378 as of Thursday, Akufo-Addo said in the televised address to the nation.

Akufo-Addo said the new cases were detected as a result of the ongoing enhanced contact tracing and testing exercise.

“192 of our cases also came from travellers who came into the country before closure and their contacts 79% of the 378 confirmed cases,” he said.

The president also indicated that some 10,000 test results are expected in the coming week which will enable the government to decide on the way forward.

“We should be able to test some additional 10,000 samples in the coming week to give us a clearer picture to enable us take a decision on the way forward.” — NNN-GNA
