Covid-19: Angola’s Health Ministry summons retired professionals

LUANDA, April 8 (NNN-ANGOP) — The Health Ministry (MINSA) appealed to retired Angolan doctors and nurses to join in and reinforce the staff involved in the fight against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.

According to a Minsa statement, those called in  are required to report to locations and dates that will be designated by the Provincial Health Department.

The note also states that those called to join in shall be working at quarantine sites or referral centres handling Covid-19 patients.

The Provincial Health Departments are required to put in place all necessary assistance to the summoned retired professionals so they can perform their duties properly and set the modes of operation, the source says.

Minsa is committed to securing the salaries and allowances for those joining in, in line with their professional rankings.   

According to available data, Angola has more than 7,000 working medical doctors, including 919 foreigners and 40,000 nurses for a population of about 30 million inhabitants.

Angola has until now reported 17 imported positive cases of Covid-19. Of the total, two died, two got cured and the remainder 13 are in hospital in stable condition. — NNN-ANGOP
