KUCHING, Mar 31 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Forty-six more individuals were detained for breaching the Movement Control Order (MCO) throughout Sarawak, in operations conducted from 8.00 am yesterday to 8.00 am today.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner, Datuk Dev Kumar M.M. Sree said, with the latest arrests, the total number of people detained for defying MCO in the state since last week have risen to 276.
“Miri has the most offenders with 12 people, followed by Kuching (9), Sibu (8), Saratok (3), Padawan (2), Kota Samarahan (2), Sri Aman (2), Limbang (2), Dalat (2), Bintulu (1), Serian (1), Lawas (1) and Sarikei (1),” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Dev Kumar said today, 83 people were charged in court for breaking the order.
“Among the districts, Sibu leads with 31 individuals, followed by Padawan (13), Miri (7), Dalat (7), Sarikei (6), Lawas (6), Matu Daro (6), Kuching (4), Kota Samarahan (2) and Bintulu (1),” he said.
All the offenders were detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within The Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020,” he said.
He said, if found guilty, they could be jailed up to two years and fined RM10,000 or both.– NNN-BERNAMA
