KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Azerbaijan has expressed its support and appreciation to the Malaysian Government for the measures implemented to contain the spread of the COVID-19, said its Ambassador to Malaysia Prof.Dr Qaley Allahverdiyev.

In a congratulatory letter on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia and himself sent to the newly appointed Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein on Thursday (March 19), the Ambassador said that similar measures were also being taken in Azerbaijan.

“And our government and respective agencies are ready to cooperate with their Malaysian counterparts in addressing the current pandemic,” he said in the letter made available to Bernama.

The Malaysian government has enforced the Movement Control Order to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases, from March 18 to March 31.

The Movement Control Order is being implemented under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967 from March 18 to 31, 2020, as part of Malaysia’s efforts to contain the disease.

Allahverdiyev. who is the Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia, also said that the growing number of confirmed COVID-19 infection cases also concerns health protection issues of diplomatic missions’ staff and their family members in Malaysia.

“Considering this, I would like to request Your Excellency’s kind assistance in urging the relevant Malaysian authorities to appoint a medical centre to which diplomatic missions can turn to in case of need,” he further said.

Allahverdiyev also said that he looks forward to working closely with Hishammuddin to further strengthen Baku-Kuala Lumpur cooperation and partnership at all levels.
