NEW DELHI, Mar 17 (NNN-PTI) – “The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across India is 125,” a statement issued by India’s federal ministry of health and family welfare said. “Of these, 103 cases are Indian nationals and 22 are foreign nationals.”
The figure does not include the two deaths and 13 people who were successfully cured and discharged.
On Monday the number of cases in the country was 114.
So far Maharashtra state reported the highest number of cases, followed by Kerala and Uttar Pradesh.
“The confirmed positive cases in Maharashtra is 36,” the ministry said.
The ministry, in its data, showed 13 people have been discharged from hospitals, after showing improvement.
So far, India reported two deaths pertaining to the COVID-19. One was a 76-year-old man, who died in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka. He had a travel history to Saudi Arabia.
The second was a 68-year-old woman from West Delhi (mother of a confirmed case of COVID-19). She had a history of contact with a positive case (her son who had travel history to Switzerland and Italy between Feb 5 and 22.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, urged people to share technology-driven solutions for the disease.
The Indian government decided to close all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, gyms, museums, swimming pools, theatres until Mar 31, to contain the spread of COVID-19. Likewise, an advisory in this regard has been sent to the state governments for implementation.
Authorities in many states have already closed educational institutions and cinemas until Mar 31, as a precautionary measure. Even major sporting events have been cancelled. People have been urged to avoid mass gatherings and unnecessary foreign travel.– NNN-PTI
