MANILA, Mar 14 (NNN-PNA) – The Philippines today, Saturday, reported the sixth fatality from the COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease in the country, to six.
The Department of Health (DoH) said in a statement that, the 54-year-old Filipino male, from Lanao del Sur Province, in southern Philippines, died on Friday night, of “acute respiratory distress syndrome, due to severe pneumonia with concomitant acute kidney injury.”
The patient was admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Centre in Cagayan de Oro City, on Mar 3, after manifesting symptoms on Feb 24.
The DoH earlier reported that the patient may have contracted the disease in Manila, after attending a meeting of local officials here. He was the first COVID-19 case in Mindanao region, in the southern Philippines.
The Philippines has now 64 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including six deaths.
The Philippines activated code red level 2, the highest level of national emergency response management, and placed Metro Manila, home to nearly 13 million people, under community quarantine, in a bid to halt the spread of the deadly virus.– NNN-PNA
