Two U.S., One British Nationals Killed In Rocket Attack On Military Base Near Iraqi Capital

BAGHDAD, Mar 12 (NNN-NINA) – Local media reported two U.S. soldiers and a British national were killed, and some 12 people wounded, in a rocket barrage, on a military base in the north of the capital, Baghdad.

A U.S. official confirmed that two U.S. soldiers and a British were killed in the rocket attack, on al-Taji Camp, in the north of Baghdad, al-Sumaria TV channel said, without further details.

Earlier in the evening, the Iraqi military, said that, 10 rockets landed on al-Taji Camp, some 20 km north of Baghdad, where some U.S. troops are stationed, without causing casualties.

The Iraqi security force found a truck, carrying a rocket launcher, with three un-fired rockets, left in the nearby al-Rashdiyah area.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, as the military bases, housing U.S. troops across Iraq and the heavily fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, have been frequently targeted by insurgents’ mortar and rocket attacks.

Over 5,000 U.S. troops have been deployed in Iraq, to support the Iraqi forces, in the battles against Daesh militants, mainly providing training and advice, to the Iraqi forces.– NNN-NINA
